We heard that they are going to put the 4th crew back on the coater, is this true and if it is does this mean that some of us will be coming back? The next question is what will happen to our red circle rate if we don't want to come back over there just to be sent home all the time losing money? I sure would like to have these questions answered before this happens. Thank you for your time in this matter.

winder3, you heard correct. George Martin and Rick Watro went over the 4th crew in the town hall meeting last week. Don't think they really want us to show up at these meetings being they do not pay you for coming to them...that is unless your management. How many of us can leave our jobs to attend, then when you attend they take a count of the Union members then they look at other ways to cut more jobs. Anyway back to your questions, This will take sometime the last part of March, no guarantee they would not be sent home on the slow days again. What was brought up was the use of our members in the other departments to help out on the cleanup, not doing our jobs but just to help get the place looking better. George Martin said there should not be any problems in letting them do this instead of sending them home. Your other question on the Red Circle Rate issue: how it has always been in the past is if your asked to go back to your department after you have been cut, for a permanent job back to your old job, and you turn this permanent job down they have taken the red circle rate nad you start making the rate the job you are currently working pays. Will they consider letting these people from the coater keep the red circle rate if you turn down the job...probably not. I hope this answers your questions. David |
