Well we are coming down to the wire for negotiations, Now we need a some help from our membership. We will be asking a few of you to step up to help us out on getting information out to our membership. We are hoping that the ones that we ask for help will step up and join in when needed. It might be to just hand something out of collect up some information. But understand this, it will help us out extremely. The more help for you all the better focus we will have at the table. I will be selling raffle tickets for Charles Elrod this week and will be talking with some of you and asking for your help. Also now is the time to voice your concerns to your Executive board. Suggestion is what we will be asking for here in the next few weeks or so. Be looking for some information coming your way in the very near future. Thanks and I hope everyone has a very good new year. David

Just to let everyone know that Escanaba Mill had an 88% membership turnout for the Contract vote and have once again turned it down. One of the biggest roadblocks is the Flexibility Clause. And I am here to tell you that if the company gets this at the Escanaba mill it will be coming our way. You say that we already have a flexibility clause in our Contract....yep your right, but its nothing compared to what they are trying to enforce on them. If the comapny wins there you can just forget about Seniority and everything else because they can place you anywhere in the mill they want to put you and there will not be a damn thing you can do about it. I will also tell you this, while we were in Detroit last week in one of our meetings over this clause, Byron and their committee made some comments that rang very true. If they (Escanaba) votes in this Contract everything they give up will also be lost at the other mills. And this is what they were worring about, Whiting Mills, Stevens Point Mills, Luke Mill, Wickliffe Mill and the rest of the mills of NewPage. Not just themselves. We are all in this together. Its not just about US its about everyone of the NewPage Mills because they are going after everything our Union has fought for all these years. I cannot stress to everyone of you here at Wickliffe just how bad things will be getting come Negotiation time. Talk to Gurvey and Gary, they were at the same meetings I was in at Detroit, they will tell you just how bad things are, just don't take my word for it ask them. (Me being the shy and don't say much guy ) |
